Free Rice For The Holidays

Give a few minutes of your time online to feed someone this holiday season.

Visit Free Rice.com – spend a few minutes and they’ll make a donation to The United Nations to combat hunger. It costs you nothing except your time.

Read more about it here.

There is some pooh-poohing about this site as it does collect ad revenue...but, the rice really does end up in the hands of hungry people or at least in the hands of those who distribute it at the U.N.

Very good idea. Though I think we should remember things like this throughout the year, since people aren´t just hungry over Christmas!

I love this site! I posted about it

I also tried missing all the words initially to see how low level one was and I must say it is perfect for third graders! I was all set to get my students on Free Rice, but it is blocked by our schools internet safety firewall.

I guess maybe some of the words at the highest levels are blocked? Anyway, I would use it with grammar school kids if I could. I think they would be proud to be helping people get food.

Too many people have nothing to eat while we feast like kings.

I love the Free rice site too...it makes me feel smart, and cause makes me feel less guilty about wasting time at work "playing" the game.
